[5575] of Farmington, supposed to be the eldest child of Decon Stephen Hart, and born in England, married, Nov 20th 1644, Thomas Porter, who lived on the lot adjacent to her father, a part of which has remained in the family, and was, in 1844, occupied by his decendant, Timothy Porter. They joined the church in 1653, and many of their descendants have been deacons, and some of them clergymen, among the later, Ebenezer Porter, D. D., President of Andover Theological Seminary. [5300] of Braintree, Eng. Cambridge, Mass., Hartford and Farmington, Conn.
Made a free man by the church at Farmington, Oct. 19th 1653. He was one of the first settlers of Tunxis, and brought his house lot of the original owners, and among the list of eighty-four proprietors of 1672, is numbered the "Estate of John Hart". Oct 1660 Committee to examine "Thrity Mile Island" with the veiw of settlement, when John Hart of Farmington, was elected one of said comittee. His sad and untimely death occured on this wise, viz: his house, which was located near the center of the village, was fired in the night by Indains, and he and all his family, with the exception of his eldest son, John, who was that night at Nod. or Northington, since called Avon, looking after the stock on a farm they owned there, pershed in the flames. What aggravated the public calamity was the burning of the town records, at the same time. The General Court made diligent search among the Tunxis trribe for the incenendiaries, but this neither restored life nor records. This fire occurred 15th of Dec. 1666.
