birth date
"Rehabilitation after King Philip's War fell to the second generation of Tisdales. Houses and barns could be rebuilt, fields could be replanted, but lived shocked by the horror of Indian warfare were more difficult to restore. John Tisdale, Junior, was probably such as casualty."
During this generation, as settlers were able to clear more land, they occupied more and more of the eight square miles of the original land purchase and the North and South Purchases. Distance from Taunton made it difficult to walk to church services twice on the Sabbath, to attend town meetings and muster days. So one after another the little settlements asked to have their own churches and town meetings. Thus the settlement of Assonet became Freetown in 1693, Norton was incorporated in 1706, Dighton in 1712, Easton in 1725, and Raynham in 1731. Tisdales lived in all these towns. The streams and old Indian trails were the routes of transportation. the importance of the streams is shown by the fact that when Dighton ws surveyed seven highways were laid running westerly from the river two miles into the woods with a landing at each rivers end. North and south roads were laid out later.
This generation, with the exception of Sarah, remained in the Taunton area but settled in the satellite towns. Joshua built a sawmill and a grist mill on Assonet river and Joseph kept an "Ordinary" in Taunton.
In 1699 the Plymouth Plantation and the Main colony were joined with the Massachusetts Bay Colony under the name Massachusetts Bay Province. The townships of Taunton, Swansea, Rehobeth, Freetown, Dartmouth, Bristol, Little Compton, Tiverton, and Attleboro constituted Bristol County."
"Although John, Jr. was born in Duxbury, he lived most of his life and died in Taunton...He was a farmer who was declared a freeman in 1670. In 1668, John was one of the Proprietors of the North Purchase and in 1672 his name is on the list of buyers of the South Purchase.
John survived his father two years--years of care, no doubt, for he took his life in late December 1677. The shock of his father's tragic death, the troubles in the settlement of the estate, and his mother's death took their toll. He was buried in the Neck of Land burying ground. (See copy of above book for will and inventory info)"
